Docket Management System
Summary: Moves Transportation Department public rule making and adjudicatory documents online giving the public access to policy decisions as they are being made. The online system is enabled for online electronic commenting by the public. This $4.3 million project hopes to save $1.27 million per year.

EnviroMapper
Summary: EPA's effort to deliver environmental and regulatory data via the Web. The system integrated this map and text data at a cost of $170,000.

Summary: The General Services Administration has partnered with other federal and state agencies to provide government service centers in malls around the nation. The first two are located in California and Massachusetts. The centers feature interactive kiosks which access government information via the internet.

Hilbert-Huang Method
Summary: A $300,000 NASA data analysis and processing project which is utilized by almost 60 universities and government laboratories. Uses include testing during submarine development by the Navy Surface Warfare Center and ocean oscillation analysis for climate studies by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Summary: The Phoenix Area Indian Health Service's performance measurement system which maintains accreditation for patient care, as well as third party revenue generation. The IHPES takes special steps to address health issues of the American Indian and Alaska Native populations.

Integrated Card Production System
Summary: ICPS replaces multiple Immigration and Naturalization Service card production systems. Now, INS issued cards, including green cards, can be produced from a single modular and upgradeable system. ICPS also works to make it harder to counterfeit INS issued cards.

Summary: An online forum which enables military medical personnel to gain access to the Tripler Army Medical Center's Tumor Board. Gives patients and doctors access to oncology care no matter the location.

Management Reform Memorandum #15: Reengineering the Defense Transportation Documentation and Financials Process
Summary: The Defense Department's $18.8 million initiative to adopt "transportation industry best commercial practices." Initiative features include the adoption of standard commercial documentation and the implementation of PowerTrack, an online payment and transaction system. PowerTrack will reduce government payment times to contractors from an average of 60 days to 3. DoD projects annual savings of $11.17 million.

'Meandering Path' Geophysical Investigations
Summary: Army Corps of Engineers project which utilizes recent Global Positioning System technology advances to help prepare sites with unexploded ordnance for decontamination. This project enables the Corps to spend less on site preparation and more on unexploded ordnance detection and removal. Site preparation used to include vegetation clearing and more labor intensive mapping techniques.

Summary: U.S. Geological Survey project to integrate demographic, environmental, economic, social, political and historical data in an online geographic format.

National Biological Information Infrastructure
Summary: U.S. Geological Survey project which creates an online network of biological data.

Operating Online
Summary: Postal Rate Commission (PRC) electronic filing system which keeps various pleadings with the commission electronic. The PRC also converted its old pleadings into electronic formats for search and retrieval purposes. This is important because a single pleading can include up to 35,000 pages in documents. This data was copied up to 149 times which could then equal over 5.2 million printed pages. This $370,000 project could save $150,000 per year.

Real Estate Assessment Center Inspection System
Summary: Department of Housing and Urban Development program which institutes a new inspection protocol and gives inspectors pen-based computers with which to capture inspection data. The pen-based computers download site information at the beginning of the day and upload the inspection results at the end.

Weather Support to De-Icing Decision Making
Summary: A $4.6 million FAA project aimed at using Doppler radar, surface weather data, and snow gauges to aid pilots, controllers and dispatchers in making deicing decisions which can prevent crashes and delays.

WxMap
Summary: A Navy Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center implementation of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory created WxMap. WxMap enables forecasters to integrate data from Fleet Numerical and the National Weather Service and displays the results on the Web.
