onitors are critical components of imaging systems. New display systems are larger, brighter and less expensive than their predecessors. Standard 15-inch screens are being replaced by 17-inch models as prices drop below $1,000. High-resolution units from companies such as NEC, Panasonic and Sony eliminate eyestrain and headaches while flat screens from Fujitsu, Hitachi and Sharp produce distortion-free images. Non-interlaced monitors with automatic degaussers boast faster refresh rates for less flicker.

New digital controls-some of which are even handled on screen-make for easy fine-tuning of image sizes and screen positions. Color monitors, such as the Cornerstone model, now are standard for many imaging applications.
