The 15 Federal Jobs Where Women Earn More Than Men

The gender-based pay gap in federal government is shrinking.

Federal agencies decreased the disparity by 17 cents on the dollar over the last 20 years, with federal women in 2012 receiving 87 cents for every dollar a man earned, the Office of Personnel Management reported last week. In fact, in 15 of the 37 white collar positions, as categorized by OPM, women in the federal workforce now earn more than men.

The jobs are classified as subsections of five, more broadly defined categories: professional, administrative, clerical, technical and other. OPM has a detailed definition of each of these categories here. Below is the list of the 15 positions in which female feds fare better than their male counterparts on average:

1. General administration -- clerical (Females earn 116.7 percent of what men earn)

2. Legal -- technical (105.1)

3. All other administrative  (103.9)

4. Accounting and Budget -- technical (103.3)

5. Legal -- administrative (102.3)

6. General administration -- technical (102.1)

7. All other clerical (101.9)

8. Administrative technology (101.8)

9. Medical/Health -- clerical (101.8)

10. Pilot/Navigator (101.7)

11. Miscellaneous administrative (101.7)

12. Business/industry -- professional (100.5)

13. All other -- other  (100.3)

14. Miscellaneous -- other (100.2)

15. Personnel management -- administrative (100.2)
