At a Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board meeting Monday, one of the five Senate-confirmed board members, Ron McCray, asked Executive Director Gregory Long about the agency’s procedures on giving data to the NSA.
Long responded that he has never been asked for information in his tenure as director, but it would be the agency’s policy to deny any such request. FRTIB has not received any such requests since the 1980s, when the agency “opposed” the probe, an official said without elaborating.
“I have a duty to the participants and beneficiaries of the TSP,” Long said. “I have zero obligations to the NSA.”
McCray followed up by pointing out private-sector companies such as Comcast, Verizon and AT&T have cooperated with intelligence agency as part of the PRISM program, but Long remained steadfast that FRTIB would not give away information about TSP participants.
