Play of the Day: Donald Trump is Now Promising Heaven

The GOP nominee's messianic complex was on display last week.

Last week was an eventful one for the 2016 presidential campaign. Overshadowing the WikiLeaks dump of Clinton campaign emails exposing shadiness were revelations that Donald Trump allegedly sexually assaulted multiple women. As Saturday Night Live's Colin Jost joked, "who would've thought notorious mastermind hacker Julian Assange would do less damage than Access Hollywood's Billy Bush?"

Trump knocked back the accusations last week in a series of speeches, including one in Florida in which he spoke in apocalyptic terms about the election. "Many of my friends and many political experts warned me that this campaign would be a journey to hell," Trump said. "But they’re wrong. It will be a journey to heaven." Last Week Tonight's John Oliver noted the messianic language in Trump's speech, joking that there is a Trump version of "What Would Jesus Do?" and it is far less flattering.
