Play of the Day: The President's Speech Was Not Exactly Uplifting

The American public was OK until Obama called the Islamic State "a cancer."

Donald Trump unveiled an outrageous plan to restrict Muslims from coming into the United States Monday, causing late-night TV to joke again about the candidate. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked that plenty of people would leave if Trump became president and trampling the Muslims trying to get in, while Conan O'Brien mentioned the comment and connected it to Trump's poll numbers.

After President Barack Obama spoke about terrorism Sunday night, Monday late-night shows joked about the speech. The Daily Show's Trevor Noah talked about what the speech preempted, while Meyers took umbrage at 2016 GOP contenders' problems with Obama's wording. The Nightly Show's Larry Wilmore didn't like the speech, first pointing out how silly Obama's podium looked, then commented on the tone of the speech. After all, once the president talked "cancer," everyone was bummed out.
