Play of the Day: The Next GOP Debate Could Become a Literal Gong Show

Seth Meyers examines the letter the RNC sent to networks with debate restrictions.

The Daily Show was on hiatus last week, so host Trevor Noah joked Monday night about the budget deal Congress passed. Talking about the short-term deals that proceeded it, Noah wondered if federal budgets were like some cell phone contracts: month-to-month.

Late Night's Seth Meyers devoted his "A Closer Look" segment Monday night to the recent letter the Republican National Committee wrote with demands and restrictions on debates going forward. The letter suggested an audible indicator to let candidates know when their time was up, suggesting a "gong/buzzer/bell." Late Night seized on the gong, even having the staff put together a video package of how the most recent debate would have sounded.
