Storify: Public Officials React to Obama's Immigration Address

Social media reactions to Obama's announcement, mostly along party lines.

Barack Obama announced his plans to fix the "broken" American immigration system Thursday night with a prime-time address to the nation. Obama outlined a three-point plan that would make more resources available for border operations, give more visas to high-tech immigrants and enforce existing laws against illegal immigration.

"Even as we are a nation of immigrants, we are also a nation of laws," Obama said. "Undocumented workers broke our immigration laws, and I believe that they must be held accountable – especially those who may be dangerous," adding the focus will be on deporting criminals.
