Play of the Day: Obama and the Tax Code
While The Daily Show looks at taxes, Jay Leno talks about his big guest.
Despite it being far from April, The Daily Show’s John Oliver began last night’s show with comedy about taxes. The United States tax code has not been significantly changed since Tax Reform Act of 1986 , which gave Oliver opportunity to do some 80s humor, referencing the decade’s icons like Boy George, The A-Team and the 1987 Ted Danson classic Three Men and a Baby . Oliver also joked about tax loopholes including ones connected to oil manufacturing and chicken waste fuel.
President Barack Obama visited The Tonight Show as a guest Tuesday night, which gave host Jay Leno opportunity to spend most of his monologue on the president. Leno joked about Obama’s involvement in the National Security Agency’s surveillance program, his wife’s campaign for health in the US and Obama tapping Sen. John McCain to go to Egypt to represent the United States. Across the country, future Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon spoke to “Obama” on the phone as the president compared Fallon unfavorably to Leno.
