Play of the Day: Congress Resolves One Aspect of the Sequester

Opening to the public Thursday, The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum was still fresh in the mind of late-night comedians Monday evening. David Letterman did a piece evocative of Ricky Gervais’ awkward comedy classic Office series, as the Late Show host spoke to a silent, confused loop video of the 43rd president. Fresh off his appearance headlining the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday, TBS’ Conan O’Brien also worked Bush into his show, again digging on the Texan’s intellect.

The passing of a bill to end the furloughs of air traffic controllers was a key point for ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel. The host referenced the lucky fact that the bill was passed at the moment when members of Congress needed to get on planes, then came up with a wonderfully sarcastic title for the bill. On Comedy Central, The Daily Show spent its entire first segment on the bill, highlighting the self-congratulatory nature of Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and the lack of attention paid to Transportation Department head Ray LaHood’s protestations on the sequester’s effects.
