Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s recent elevation to the papacy remains a key topic for late-night comedians. The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno noted Rob Portman’s recent reversal on same-sex marriage, while Real Time’s Bill Maher noted Pope Francis’ stance on the topic, as well. Maher was the only host to joke about CPAC, talking about Mitt Romney’s same personality type. Leno, also, went back to Francis’ early job as a nightclub bouncer in Buenos Aires.
On CBS, The Late Show’s David Letterman found a different reason for the cancellation of White House tours and also found a special baseball-like giveaway day for the Vatican. Late Night’s Jimmy Fallon went domestic and noted a recent proposal from a Nevada lawmaker to legalize recreational marijuana use.
