FBI probing possible contracting fraud at Arlington Cemetery
A federal grand jury in Alexandria, Va., has been subpoenaing witnesses and records.
The scandal over the mishandling remains buried at Arlington National Cemetery has reached the Justice Department, with the FBI probing the issue and looking into contracting fraud and falsifying records, The Washington Post is reporting.
Citing sources familiar with the investigation, the Post reports that a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Va., has been subpoenaing witnesses and records. The FBI and Army Criminal Investigation Command investigation began six months ago. Congress has also been looking into the issue since last year.
A June 2010 Army Inspector General's Office report revealed misplaced and misidentified remains and millions wasted on information technology contracts. The ongoing saga forced out senior leaders at Arlington.
