Senate approves short-term FAA bill

The 15th extension includes additional safety measures, including new training requirements and more instruction hours for pilots.

Following House action Thursday night, the Senate on Friday extended authorization of FAA programs through Sep. 30, marking the 15th interim measure as Congress remains stalled on a longer-term reauthorization.

The bill differs from past extensions by adding safety steps resulting from a crash near Buffalo, N.Y., in February 2009, including new training requirements and additional instruction hours for pilots.
