The date of his speech before a joint session of Congress, which is expected to outline his domestic and foreign policy priorities, had been subject to considerable speculation since the new year began. Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill have been trying to settle their differences over major healthcare legislation and send a final bill to the White House by the State of the Union address. The White House has encouraged such timing to allow Obama to declare that he has delivered on one of his biggest campaign promises.
"The address will be broadcast live on national television and will be streamed live on www.WhiteHouse.gov," a White House spokesman said Monday.
