Eric Holder confirmed as attorney general

New chief of the Justice Department is a former U.S. attorney and served as deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration.

Despite some Republican opposition, the Senate on Monday approved Eric Holder as attorney general in a 75-21 vote.

Republicans slowed Holder's nomination in the Judiciary Committee and briefly on the Senate floor due to concerns about his role in controversial pardons during the Clinton administration and about whether Holder would push prosecution of intelligence officials.
