Offices in Washington Area to Remain Shuttered Tuesday

For many employees, it means another telework day.

Federal offices in and around Washington will remain closed Tuesday, the Office of Personnel Management announced Monday evening.

The announcement came as local jurisdictions struggled to remove the massive amounts of snow dumped on the region in last weekend’s snowstorm. Main roads were open across the area Tuesday, but crews had yet to reach side streets in many locations.

For some federal employees, the announcement brings another day off. But for those who are used to teleworking at least part of the time, work is expected to go on.

“Telework-Ready Employees who are scheduled to perform telework on the effective day of the announcement or who are required to perform telework on a day when Federal offices are closed must telework the entire workday or request leave,” OPM said in the announcement.

The Washington Metro system announced that trains would be running as of 5 a.m. Tuesday, on a modified weekday schedule. Metrobus service will be limited to major routes only.
