Washington-area agencies to return to normal operations Thursday

For the first time since Sandy hit, government will be fully open.

As of Thursday, the federal government in the Washington area will be fully open, the Office of Personnel Management announced Wednesday.

"Employees are expected to report to their worksites or begin telework on time," the agency said in an update on government's operating status. "Normal operating procedures are in effect."

On Monday and Tuesday, federal offices in the Washington area were closed due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, although emergency employees were on the job and others were encouraged to telework. On Wednesday, government was open, with those employees still affected by the storm allowed to take unscheduled leave or telework.
