National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins appeared as a guest on the Colbert Report Thursday. Collins will appear in “The Weight of the Nation,” an HBO documentary series on obesity in the U.S.
“What are we going to do about the fact that two thirds of adults and one third of children are obese or overweight,” Collins said, warning of the dangers of obesity. “This generation of kids may be the first one in 100 years that doesn’t live as long as their parents and grandparents.”
During the interview, Collins also discussed his own struggle with weight gain and called for a change in the food industry.
“The problem is this isn’t just about some of us, it’s about all of us,” he said. “We need to think about this holistically.”
