Labor Department to consolidate field offices

In an effort to increase agency efficiency and reduce costs by roughly $19 million over the next two years, the Labor Department will close and consolidate several offices, Federal Times reported.
The move comes along with several other management reforms included in the Obama administration’s fiscal 2013 federal budget proposal released Monday.
Labor plans to close its public affairs offices in Denver and Seattle. The agency also hopes to consolidate the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s offices in Boston, Denver, Kansas City, New York, San Francisco and Seattle down to three locations.
Additionally, Labor will close its lowest performing Job Corps centers, two offices at its Women’s Bureau, two locations of the office of the solicitor and four offices of the Employee Benefits Security Administration.
