So far, 2013 has been all about big challenges for those who run the government’s huge programs and operations. The threat of sequestration hangs over agencies, and whatever happens, managers and executives will be under pressure to find ways to get the job done at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers.
That’s where this year’s Excellence in Government conference comes in. For going on two decades now, Government Executive has, through Excellence in Government, provided federal officials with the opportunity to learn both from their peers and outside experts the techniques that have been successful in creating high-performance organizations in the federal sector.
This year, due to increasing demand, we’re expanding Excellence in Government to a two-day event at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington on May 13-14. In preparation for the conference, our crack team of Excellence in Government researchers has conducted an in-depth study of the top concerns of federal managers and executives this year. It shows that fully 66 percent of them see achieving operational efficiency as their primary challenge. Other top concerns include human capital challenges such as cultivating the right staffing skill sets and improving workforce engagement.We’re using these and other insights gleaned from the survey to put together this year’s agenda for Excellence in Government. We’ll be unveiling more information about that in the coming weeks, along with some very exciting news about speakers.
