Sandy's Heroes Win Health Benefits
Many of the part-time disaster assistance employees deployed in response to Superstorm Sandy have been working without the benefit of federal health insurance coverage.
Last week that changed, as we reported. The Office of Personnel Management on Wednesday made the change official with the publication of an interim final rule to grant Federal Emergency Management Agency reservists Federal Employees Health Benefits Program coverage.
The FEMA reservists are the second group of part-time workers to receive FEHBP coverage this year, after Forest Service firefighters won the benefits in July. Both groups received attention after launching online petitions.
