Agencies Need Vets

And in this case, we're not talking about veterans of military service (although the government is committed to hiring them). The latest strategic workforce initiative from the Office of Personnel Management covers a different kind of vets -- veterinarians.

"The federal government is currently facing a shortage of veterinarians," says OPM Director John Berry. "Veterinarians are vital to ensuring the security and safety of our nation's food supply as well as our ability to respond to possible catastrophic or emergency events."

The new plan for the federal veterinary medical officer workforce, which covers efforts to identify needs and improve recruitment and retention, will be implemented from 2011 to 2015.
