GOP lawmaker, three others in mix for comptroller general

Picks include Rep. Todd Platts, formerly ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Management Subcommittee.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democratic leaders Tuesday sent their recommendations to President Obama for comptroller general, who heads the Government Accountability Office.

Democrats submitted four candidates to Obama, including a Republican House member, Rep. Todd Platts of Pennsylvania, who was formerly ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Management Subcommittee. Platts told CongressDaily he would give up his seat if he was selected. His district south of Harrisburg, Pa., is considered a safe GOP seat.

The other picks were Linda Bilmes, a full-time faculty member at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, where she teaches budgeting, applied budgeting and public finance; Acting Comptroller General Gene Dodaro; and former Assistant Comptroller Ira Goldstein.
