GovBenefits adds citizen-focused programs

The GovBenefits Web site, a key component of President Bush's e-government strategy, has recently expanded to include 25 new citizen-focused benefit programs.

Since its launch in April 2002, the site has fostered the coordination of 11 federal agencies in an effort to improve interaction between citizens and government.

The newest additions to the site "focus on tailoring benefit programs to the needs of citizens," the White House Office of Management and Budget said in a press release.

Recently incorporated programs, such as the Education Department's Student Support Services, make an additional $34 billion in annual benefit dollars available to the American public, OMB noted.

OMB and the Labor Department have committed to expanding GovBenefits by adding 20 to 40 new programs to the site each month.
