Senior executives request meeting with President Bush

The Senior Executives Association is calling on President Bush to take a cue from his father and meet with career executives at his earliest convenience. In a Jan. 29 letter to Bush, SEA President Carol A. Bonosaro said a meeting between senior executives and the President would send "a clear signal of your regard for the career service and of the view that career executives are critical to the success of the new administration." President George H. W. Bush met with members of the senior executive service six days after his inauguration in 1989. According to Bonosaro, the meeting made a lasting impression on the career corps. When the President takes the time and effort to meet with career executives, it sets an example for Cabinet members and other political appointees to follow, Bonosaro said. "Career executives are certainly going to do everything that they can do to help this administration succeed--that is their job--but there is nothing like a little recognition, and we are most hopeful that that is going to happen. Unfortunately, we have heard nothing that would suggest it's being planned at the moment," said Bonosaro. The Bush administration has not yet responded to the letter, according to an SEA spokesman.
