Irasema T. Garza is the new director of the Women's Bureau at the Department of Labor, making her one of the highest ranking Hispanics in the Clinton administration. In her new role, Garza will promote working women's rights. She joins the Women's Bureau after spending five years as secretary of the Labor Department's National Administration Office.
Gigi Georges, former director of government relations at the American Federation of Teachers, is headed to the White House to join the National Economic Council. Georges, a candidate for Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign manager, will instead tackle education and world trade issues.
Joining Georges is David Tseng, a former advisor at the Labor Department. Tseng will become the staff director at the National Economic Council.
Joseph Semidei is the newly appointed associate commissioner of the Children's Bureau in the Health and Human Services Department's Administration for Children and Families. Semidei joins HHS from Fordham University, where he was a professor of social work.
President Clinton has appointed Bradley M. Campbell regional administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency's mid-Atlantic region. Campbell will succeed W. Michael McCabe, who was promoted to the number two position at EPA-deputy administrator. Campbell will join EPA from the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where he was associate director for toxics and environmental protection.
