Tentative House schedule targets VA-HUD spending bill

Although the post-recess congressional schedule remains tentative, the House is expected to take up the fiscal 2000 Veterans Affairs-Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill when it reconvenes Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Also expected on the floor is the rule for the campaign finance reform debate. At presstime, nothing else had been scheduled for the shortened work week, which will end by noon Sept. 10 in observance of Rosh Hashanah.

No information was available on the Senate floor schedule for the first week, although the Senate is expected to resume debate on the fiscal 2000 Interior appropriations bill.

Majority Leader Lott has said that, in addition to appropriations bills, the Senate could consider the bankruptcy reform bill, campaign finance reform and nuclear waste disposal legislation in September.
