OPM: The check's in the mail

Wondering where your federal benefit check is?

Officials at the Office of Personnel Management told The Washington Post that federal retirees' benefit checks were delayed because of the recent snowstorms in the Eastern United States. All retirees and beneficiaries should receive their checks by Friday or Saturday.

"If they haven't received their checks yet, I can truly say the checks are already in the mail," Bruce Milhans, deputy communications director at OPM, told the Post.

Of the 2.4 million retired federal workers (or survivors of retirees) who receive monthly benefit payments, about 240,000 receive the money in the form of checks, instead of direct deposit. Those checks should have arrived on Monday. A National Association of Retired Federal Employees spokesperson said they had received several calls concerning the checks' whereabouts.

Milhans said the checks are authorized in Chicago, which is still recovering from a major snowstorm.
