House Republicans late Friday unveiled their committee assignments for the 106th Congress, with several veteran members gaining prime slots on the Appropriations and Ways and Means panels.
Reps. Jo Ann Emerson, Mo.; John Sununu, N.H.; Kay Granger, Texas; and John Peterson, Pa., will be the new GOP appropriators. And Reps. Scott McInnis, Colo.; Ron Lewis, Ky.; and Mark Foley, Fla., were named to Ways and Means. None of the small GOP freshman class earned slots on these premier panels. But one GOP freshman, Rep.-elect Thomas Reynolds of New York, will join the Rules Committee, preserving a New York seat on that panel following the retirement of Chairman Gerald B.H. Solomon, R-N.Y.
