Clinton condemns African embassy attacks

President Clinton Friday condemned the "cowardly attacks" by terrorist bombers that killed dozens of people and injured more than 1,000 in and around U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and promised to bring the bombers to justice "no matter what or how long it takes."

At presstime, at least eight Americans were confirmed killed in Kenya, with a ninth missing and presumed dead, according to the U.S. embassy in Nairobi. While no Americans were killed in Tanzania, three Tanzanian guards and two Tanzanian employees at the embassy were killed.

A somber House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., today said "every American's heart and prayers should go out to the families involved" of those killed or injured. Gingrich also stated emphatically that the world should know "there is nothing that prevents us from coming together as a people to protect our own."
