Clinton nominates new Census Bureau chief

President Clinton today nominated Kenneth Prewitt, head of the Social Science Research Council in New York, to be director of the Census Bureau, the Associated Press reports. Prewitt said he hopes to defuse tensions over the proposed use of statistical sampling in the 2000 census.
