COMMON CAUSE LISTS 'SOFT' DONORS-"For the third year running, tobacco maker Philip Morris was the biggest "soft money" donor to the Republican Party, giving $1.2 million in contributions last year, according to figures compiled by Common Cause" (The Washington Post).

LAW STUDENTS HELP SETTLE POSTAL DISPUTES-"In its bid to resolve workplace disputes, the U.S. Postal Service has enlisted the help of law students in southern Florida who act as mediators between angry postal workers and supervisors" (The Washington Post).

COMMISSION DECLINES TO ENDORSE LEGISLATION ENFORCING PATIENTS' RIGHTS-"In a setback for the White House, a presidential advisory commission declined on Thursday to endorse legislation to protect and enforce the rights of patients who have been improperly denied health care benefits promised by insurance companies and employers" (The New York Times).
