The Navy has a new chief information officer: IT insider Ann Miller. Her resume includes a stint as director of information technologies at the Office of Defense Research and Engineering, numerous positions at Motorola, and computer engineering and electrical engineering teaching positions at the University of New Mexico and Michigan Technological University. She is a member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society, has co-authored two books on the programming language PASCAL and holds a patent in satellite communications.

President Clinton has nominated U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Bruce B. Knutson Jr., for a promotion to rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. Knutson is currently serving as commanding general of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing based in Okinawa, Japan.

National Reconnaissance Office corporate communications director Dennis Boxx, formerly head of public affairs for the CIA, is shedding his spy agency skin to don a new suit: vice president for corporate communications at Lockheed Martin Corp. Boxx joins Lockheed as the behemoth is in the midst of a fight with the Justice Department over its proposed merger with Northrop Grumman Corp.

White House deputy director for press advance Jeremy Gaines is joining the media, heading to MSNBC to become associate producer for The News with Brian Williams. Gaines is a press office veteran from the 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign.
