SCIENCE FOUNDATION OFFICIAL PROBED IN CONFLICT CASE-"A high-ranking official at the National Science Foundation has broken federal conflict-of-interest laws by participating in a decision awarding a grant to an organization with whom he also was negotiating about a prospective job, according to the agency's inspector general's office" (The Washington Post).

DIGESTING THE EVIDENCE-"Once upon a time, senior U.S. officials could travel abroad and be showered with fancy gifts: baubles, antiques and such. Now it seems the more exotic the gift, the more legal and practical hoops to jump through" (The Washington Post).

WOMEN OCCUPY MORE EXECUTIVE POSITIONS-Between 1980 and 1994 the percent of women in executive, administrative and managerial occupations increased from 6.9 to 12.4 percent (Department of Health and Human Services study entitled "Women: Work and Health").
