COMMERCE SECRETARY DALEY NAMES ACTING CENSUS BUREAU DIRECTOR-"Commerce Secretary William Daley announced Friday that James F. Holmes will be named cting director of the Census Bureau. Mr. Holmes is currently the director of the Census Bureau's Atlanta regional office" (Commerce Department news release).

ETHICS CHIEF DISPUTED FEES CLAIM 6 DAYS BEFORE RUNYON RESIGNED-"Six days before Postmaster General Marvin T. Runyon announced his resignation, the Office of Government Ethics questioned his request for payment of about $45,000 in legal fees he had encountered from a conflict-of-interest investigation (The Washington Post).

TRADING LEAKS-"Not all the leaks last week came from independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr's office. The Clintonites were doing their best to keep up, but a bit of disarray appears to have afflicted the White House" (The Washington Post).
