NTSB GOES ON ATTACK-The National Transportation Safety Board harshly criticized the Federal Aviation Administration and the airline industry for failing to improve safety at hearings yesterday (Newsday).

RENO AND FREEH STAND PAT-Attorney General Janet Reno and FBI Director Louis Freeh continue to refuse to hand over an internal memo to congressional Republicans. The memo from Freeh urged Reno to appoint an independent counsel to investigate the president (AP).

HELP FOR THE HOMELESS-The Department of Housing and Urban Development has set up a toll-free hotline, 1-800-HUD-1010, to help homeless people through the winter (CNN Interactive).
