U.S. Navy International Logistics Symposium

Secretary of the Navy John H. Dalton will be a guest speaker at a three-day International Logistics Symposium sponsored by the Navy International Programs Office in conjunction with the American Society of Naval Engineers, July 14-16, 1997, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Crystal City, VA. Representatives from government, industry and foreign nations will meet to exchange ideas and review exhibits on a variety of logistics topics related to the Navy's Foreign Military Sales program. PAY--Federal employees who receive limited relocation allowances while serving in assignments away from their permanent duty locations for extended periods of time now can receive the locality-based pay of the temporary official duty station, according to new rules issued by OPM (Office of Communications News Release, 5/13/97).

THE FEDERAL DIARY--"Approximately 7,000 of the 10,000 people President Clinton has ordered federal agencies to hire from the welfare rolls will be assigned to temporary jobs in the Census Bureau or with the Department of Defense. The remainder will be scattered among other federal agencies" (The Washington Post).

OF INTEREST--Many dual earner families haven't any choice; they either work full time or go broke (The Wall Street Journal, Work & Family).

FMLA--The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a big hit all around according to findings of employer surveys (The Wall Street Journal, Letters to the Editor).
