IN THE NEWS...

NOMINATION--"The President today announced his intent to nominate James B. King to serve as Director of the Office of Personnel Management to his second four-year term" (The White House, Office of the Press Secretary, February 25).

REEMPLOYMENT CENTERS--Five Metro Area Reemployment Centers (MARCs), are now open and ready to offer reemployment services to federal government employees and federal contract workers in the metropolitan area (Office of Communications News Release, February 21).

HATCH ACT--"The ultimate guide to legal political behavior for government employees is the Hatch Act . . . Different guidelines apply to the White House. Under an exclusion in the act, people on the White House payroll are permitted to engage in political activities in the course of their work. But they may not use government resources for such activities" (USA TODAY).

GPRA--"If properly and seriously implemented, the 1993 Government Performance and Results Act can have a positive impact on reforming government by clarifying agency missions, coordinating crosscutting program efforts, establishing more results-oriented goals, and designing realistic strategies to meet them, witnesses told a House oversight panel Feb. 12" (Government Employees Relations Report).
