Marines Too Tough for Bowe

After only 11 days as a Marine Corps reservist, former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe left a Marine boot camp at Parris Island, S.C., today. Bowe, 29, had endured only three days of actual training. He was supposed to be at Parris Island for three months.

"It was just that he couldn't handle the regimented training lifestyle," Master Sgt. Chuck Demar of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot told The Washington Post. "He's been released at his own request."

"I would think Riddick would like to serve his country, but in some other capacity," Rock Newman, Bowe's manager, told CNN-SI television. "Maybe now he can run for Congress or something."

Bowe surprised the sports world late last month when he announced that he would become a Marine reservist.
