"If you want to abolish it, stop it, slash it, blow it up, rip it up or send it out of Washington, we Republicans are your party. Our national agenda sounds like a demolition derby. ... I believe in every bit of this myself. Most Republicans do. ... It's a message that wins primaries and raises money for think tanks. It's the juiciest red meat for direct mail. It can even win a congressional majority. The problem is, this message has been winning about 40% of the vote in presidential elections. I believe this is because we forget to tell our audiences where we are headed after the dust settles."
