No Holiday, Thanks

The folks at the Office of Personnel Management aren't giving thanks for all the inquiries they get each year about whether federal employees get the day after Thanksgiving off. In fact, they sound a little testy about the issue.
"Plenty of Federal Holidays, But Day After Thanksgiving NOT Among Them," reads a recent press release from the agency.
"It is customary and common for many federal workers to take a vacation day -- one of their own earned leave days -- on the Friday after Thanksgiving (with prior supervisory approval) to make a long weekend of the occasion," reads the release. "But it is not a holiday. Never was, never has been, still isn't."
