Bush creates homeland security transition office at OMB

President Bush on Thursday signed an executive order establishing a transition office within the Office of Management and Budget to coordinate the creation of the proposed Homeland Security Department.

The director of the Transition Planning Office for the Department of Homeland Security will head the effort, but no one has been named to the post yet.

The order requires OMB Director Mitch Daniels to provide funding and staff for the new office, which is tasked with working with Congress to create the department.

The transition office will be terminated within 90 days after Congress clears legislation creating the department.
