A different kind of GSA video
In recent days, several videos have surfaced of high-ranking General Services Administration officials and employees of its Public Buildings Service in connection with the now-scandalous Western Regions Conference of 2010.
On Tuesday, the agency released an official video of its own, featuring acting Administrator Daniel Tangherlini addressing GSA's response to the scandal. In it, Tangherlini called the conference "completely unacceptable."
"Those responsible violated rules of common sense, the spirit of public service and the trust that America's taxpayers have placed in all of us," he said. "I speak for the overwhelming majority of GSA staff when I say that we are shocked and deeply disappointed by these indefensible actions."
Tangherlini outlined steps GSA has taken to address the controversy, including conducting a thorough review of conferences and events and closing its regional "Hats Off" stores that provided goods to be used as rewards for employees. The move, he said, "is a signal that our commitment is to our service, our duty and our nation, and not to conferences, awards or parties."
