Among the most dangerous chemicals produced and transported are those in gaseous form, known formally as toxic inhalation hazard materials. Some of the most common include:

Anhydrous Ammonia
Uses Critical ingredient in plastics, fertilizers, pesticides, detergents, textiles
Dangers Can cause blindness, vomiting, death
Chlorine
Uses Purify drinking water; treat sewage; manufacture other chemicals
Dangers Can burn eyes, skin, respiratory system; may cause death
Hydrogen Chloride
Uses Metal processing; manufacture other chemicals
Dangers Can damage lungs, erode teeth; may cause death
Hydrogen Fluoride
Uses Etch glass; manufacture other chemicals and gasoline
Dangers Can severely damage respiratory system; can cause blindness, death
Anhydrous Sulfur Dioxide
Uses Manufacture other chemicals; refrigerant
Dangers Can cause severe burns, blindness, permanent lung damage, death
