The Office of Management and Budget wants to have a handful of agencies and companies sell information technology and management support across government for financial and human resources management. It named the federal service providers in January 2005:
Financial Management
- General Services Administration
- Interior
- Transportation
- Treasury
Human Resources Management
- Agriculture
- Defense
- Health and Human Services
- Interior
- Treasury
Grants management technology also is being consolidated, but the model is different. For now, agencies are matched to one of three federal consortia providers that don't compete. OMB likely will announce a service center model for some cybersecurity functions, and is considering applying the approach to IT infrastructure, geospatial systems and budget IT systems for possible centralization.
