Bring extra medication - you may not be able to get your prescription filled if it is lost. Make sure you apply early for visas. Call your hotel and find out whether it has a contingency plan for Y2K-related problems. Get the brochure, "Are You Ready for Y2K?" from the State Department at http://travel.state.gov/areyouready.html or call (202) 647-5225. If you have a medical condition that may require care, consult your doctor about the advisability of traveling to your destination and check the State Department advisories first. If you will be living overseas, don't count on the usual conveniences being available. Plan ahead to have enough essential supplies to ride out any shortages. Helpful information on how to prepare is available at http://travel.state.gov/areyouready.html and www.redcross.org/Y2K.html.
