About the Federal Technology Source Online

About the Federal Technology Source Online

The Federal Technology Source includes contact information for more than 3,000 of the most influential people in the federal information technology arena, including chief information officers, knowledge managers, and security and privacy officers. The directory also includes information on key political officials and their IT staffs, as well as trade associations, research firms and vendors. Listings include names, addresses, phone numbers and Web and e-mail addresses.

The online version of the Federal Technology Source provides access to a database of continuously updated records that can be searched by a variety of criteria (including name, title, organization and location).

How To Use the Directory

There are four ways to collect records from The Federal Technology Source:

  • Browse
  • Search
  • Purchase and download full mailing lists
  • Purchase and download customized mailing lists

All four options are accessible from links on the main Federal Technology Source page and every page in the Browse and Search sections of the directory.

Browse

Browsing allows you to view Federal Technology Source entries in context. Users can quickly scan categories in order to see how listings relate to each other, such as seeing all entries within a particular department.

Listings are organized as follows: Government
Includes listings for White House, Cabinet departments, independent agencies, interagency committees, congressional agencies and state chief information officers.

Corporate
Includes listings for corporations, trade and professional associations, education and the media.

To browse Federal Technology Source records, click on one of the sections listed on the left-hand side of the database landing page. Clicking a section will prompt sub-sections to appear. Clicking on a sub-section will pull up listings within that sub-section. From there, you can click on an individual's name to get full contact information.

All entries also can be downloaded into your Microsoft Outlook e-mail contacts list via vCard. Click "Download vCard" under the e-mail information for an entry and follow the instructions on your screen to download that contact's information.

Search

To search Federal Technology Source records, enter the search criteria in the fields on the right side of the landing page and click "Search" at the bottom of the page. Search results will be displayed in a hierarchical fashion under section headings.

Your search terms will be highlighted. In Search mode, you can access listings for specific individuals directly, without going through their department or agency. Underlined entries are hyperlinks; clicking them will open the entry in a new window.

Purchase and Download Full Mailing Lists

To purchase a downloadable mailing list of people included in the Federal Technology Source, simply click on the link at the top of each page and you'll be directed through the process. There are two purchase options:

Basic Mailing List (complete mailing address and phone number). Price: $499

Enhanced Mailing List (basic mailing list, plus fax number, e-mail address and Web site). Price: $999

You will have the option of downloading the list as an ASCII text file or a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

Purchase and Download Customized Mailing Lists

For pulling highly refined listings, specific to your needs, it is advisable to purchase a customized mailing list. The cost for downloading a mailing list is 30 cents per record. To create such a list, follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Click on "Create and purchase custom list" on the top of any page in the directory.

Step 2: Next, you will have to select the sections and/or sub-sections from the Federal Technology Source that you want to include. Clicking the box next to a section will automatically select all sub-sections within that section. For a more limited selection, or to refine your choices, click "view sections" to the right of the section headers for a drop down list of sub-sections. You can also directly view sub-sections by clicking "view sections" without clicking a section. This way, you can select certain sub-sections you want to include, rather than de-selecting Sub-sections from the automatic selection.

In order to see how many listings you have selected, look at the "Current Count" in the upper right hand corner above the buttons on the page. This is a running tally of how many contacts are included within the criteria defined by your selections. It will automatically update whenever you revise your selection criteria.

Once you are ready to further refine your selection or to purchase a list, click the "Proceed" button on the upper right hand corner of the window. You can also click "Back" to move back a step if you feel that you made a mistake or want to start over.

Step 3: Here you can further refine your search by applying optional filters to your selection. Filters vary by subsection. They enable you to limit your search for records by restricting them according to such variables as zip code, job title and organization name. To skip applying filters, you can immediately click "Proceed" in the upper right hand corner to proceed to the purchase page.

When you have selected the desired filters, click "Update" in the upper right hand corner. There you also will see the number of contacts updated as you choose filters, and the breakdown of sections. When finished, click "Proceed." At this point, you are ready to purchase your mailing list.

Step 4: Put in the payment information and click "Purchase." You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your purchase. The download of your mailing list will start automatically.

Note: Both the full and customized mailing lists are "seeded" and are licensed for a single mailing use. Since the database is updated on a regular basis, the information in it is always changing. So purchasing a new list in the future will always provide the most current and accurate data.
