From Nextgov.com: IG notes benefits of consolidating data centers
The Energy Department can save millions of dollars per year by consolidating data centers managed by contractors, according to an inspector general report released this week.

- So by consolidating you save $2.3M of a $331.M budget? I make that 0.7% savings. What NRG needs to do is follow best practice and, in particular, bring in modern technology (i.e. less than a year old). The new technology now available just about trumps the other factors. Smaller in size, cheaper to run, much more powerful as computers and able to run most legacy apps -- at least until they're rewritten to take further advantage of the hardware. It's more likely that given a proper design and restructuring thrust, NRG could save 50%, not 0.7%. Somebody give that CIO a dope slap. Arty Wright Posted November 6, 2008 12:46 PM
