Harnessing San Francisco’s Startup Talent for Civic Projects

Earlier this summer, GovExec State & Local took a look at the mayor of San Francisco’s Office of Civic Innovation’s 16-week Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program, where local startups work with city agencies to build new products to help make local government more helpful, efficient and responsive.

We featured one of the program’s promising new projects—a wayfinding system at San Francisco International Airport that will assist visually-impaired passengers better navigate the airport and others through a new digital application.

This week, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee’s office released a new video that features some the other startups involved in the Entrepreneurship-in-Residence Program and how it’s working to make San Francisco a more innovative and technologically responsive city.

“The idea behind the Entrepreneurship in Residence program is a very simple one,” said Jay Nath, chief innovation officer in Lee’s office. “How do we harness the innovation and talent of the startup community against the challenges we face in government and society?
