How Michigan’s DOT Became Way More Efficient and Technically Savvy

In order to make engineering changes to a road-construction project in Michigan, it used to take an average of 30 days to process the necessary paperwork using printed documents and mailing them around from office to office to get all of the needed stakeholder signatures.

These days, the contract-modification process can take less than three days.

How was the Michigan Department of Transportation able to make that time-saving shift? It’s been using ProjectWise, a document-management system from Bentley Systems that helps project teams work more efficiently.

MDOT also embraced mobile technology in the field, which allows project teams more effectively communicate between personnel on construction sites and off-site managers.
